Informational: Update on Off Campus Shooting

April 2 Alert Carolina crime alert message:

Students, Faculty, and Staff:

At approximately 2 p.m. today, UNC Police Department responded to a report of a victim with a gunshot wound at a residence in the 1500 block of Mason Farm Road. The incident appears to be targeted and there is no indication of a threat to the broader campus community.

The victim is not affiliated with UNC-Chapel Hill. The property where the shooting occurred is not on the main part of campus. It is owned by the University and leased through the University’s Real Estate Operations Department.

A suspect has been identified but not yet apprehended. He is a 28-year-old black male and is 6 feet tall, 180 lbs. and is wearing a white shirt, black pants and black shoes.

Additionally, Mason Farm Road is currently closed between Fordham Boulevard and Oteys Road.

An investigation is ongoing, and no further information is available.

Anyone with information should call 911 or UNC Police. The UNC Police Department is available 24 hours a day by calling 911 in an emergency or 919-962-8100 for non-emergency assistance. Officers are also available in person at the Public Safety Building located at 285 Manning Drive.
