This morning, an arrest was made after an individual wielded a knife and made threats. The 911 call came in at 8:56 a.m. No one was injured during this incident.
UNC Police officers responded to a disturbance at Bojangles in the South Road area. An individual threatened employees with a knife before leaving the building and threatening a Town of Chapel Hill bus driver. Officers confronted the individual on South Road and immediately arrested and took him into custody. He was transported to the Orange County Jail.
The officers resolved this incident quickly, preventing an ongoing threat to the campus community.
This is an informational alert instead of an emergency warning or crime alert because there is no ongoing threat to campus. If the armed individual had not been apprehended immediately, the sirens on campus would have been initiated and an Alert Carolina would have been sent automatically to campus.
The UNC Police Department is available 24 hours a day by calling 911 in an emergency or 919-962-8100 for non-emergency assistance. Officers are also available in person at the Public Safety Building located at 285 Manning Drive.
