UNC Public Safety is investigating multiple thefts of electric scooters, three of which have occurred in the last ten days. The scooters have been stolen from multiple locations across campus. UNC Police is currently investigating the thefts and is not ruling out the possibility that the incidents are related.
Anyone with information which might aid in the investigation should call the Criminal Investigations Division at (919) 966-2120. The community is encouraged to call 9-1-1 immediately if they see any suspicious activity around bike racks or scooter parking areas. UNC Police recommends using a U-lock to secure your scooter whenever possible. Scooter owners are required to park their scooters in parking areas designated specifically for their vehicles and to register their scooters with UNC Transportation & Parking (registration aids in the recovery of lost or stolen vehicles). For more information or to register your scooter, visit: Motorcycle/Scooter – Transportation and Parking (unc.edu).
