Adverse Weather: The University is closely monitoring Hurricane Michael

The University is closely monitoring the forecast for Hurricane Michael, which is expected to hit the Chapel Hill area on Thursday afternoon.

While our area is not expected to be heavily impacted, we are prepared to take necessary measures to keep our campus community safe and informed. Monitor weather conditions in your area and exercise caution while moving across campus on Thursday, as heavy rain and increased winds may occur throughout the day.

There are no current changes to campus operations. However, if conditions change, look for announcements on and, as well as email and text messages. The Alert Carolina fall sirens test scheduled for Oct. 11 is postponed and a new date will be announced at a later time.
