Smoke from Western North Carolina Wildfires Enters the Triangle
Town of Chapel Hill and Orange County agencies are alerting the community to the presence of haze and smoke in the local area, including the UNC Campus. The temporary presence of smoke is from wildfires occurring in western North Carolina. As significant impact to air quality is possible, those with respiratory problems should refrain from or limit outdoor activities.
For more information on air quality health impacts in North Carolina, visit the
North Carolina Division of Air Quality.
Additionally, the National Weather Service has indicated that strong winds behind a cold front entering the area tomorrow (Nov. 19) could raise the risk of rapid fire growth locally. Outdoor burning will be discouraged in Orange County, NC.
