INFORMATIONAL MESSAGE FROM ALERT CAROLINA:   Update on Chapel Hill Homicide Investigation

University officials continue to cooperate with the Chapel Hill Police Department in its investigation of the shooting late today resulting in the tragic deaths of three people at the Finley Forest Condominiums.

At this time, Chapel Hill Police have not released the names of the victims pending notification of next of kin. The Chapel Hill police statement, issued at 7 p.m., said the investigation is ongoing and further information may be released when it becomes available. The police do have a person of interest in custody, and do not believe there is any ongoing danger to the community.

We are sensitive to the impact an incident of this nature has on campus and in the community. We understand you want to know the facts as quickly as possible. At the same time, we must respect the job our Chapel Hill police have as they investigate this crime.
