Message from Chancellor Carol L. Folt and Vice Chancellor Winston Crisp

Dear Carolina Community:

This Sunday, September 7th, marks the anniversary of the sad and tragic death of Faith Danielle Hedgepeth off campus in 2012. The American Indian Center, along with several co-sponsors, invites the campus community to observe a moment of silence to remember Faith during a public gathering on Monday at noon. The event will be held at “The Gift,” the mosaic walkway outside the Frank Porter Graham Student Union.

Over the past two days, authorities have released new information related to the Chapel Hill Police Department’s ongoing homicide investigation, which we remain hopeful will result in the case being solved as quickly as possible. The University has cooperated fully with Chapel Hill police in their investigation.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Hedgepeth family as they grieve and cope with these reminders of such a painful loss. We know this may also be a particularly difficult time for Faith’s friends, classmates and other students, faculty and staff on campus and beyond.

We encourage all members of our community to seek support if you feel you need additional help. Counseling resources are available. We ask students to call Counseling and Psychological Services (919-966-3658), and faculty and staff to contact our Employee Assistance Program (877-314-5841), if you would like support.

Sincerely,

Carol L. Folt
Chancellor

and

Winston Crisp
Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
