INFORMATIONAL MESSAGE FROM ALERT CAROLINA: Manning Drive Traffic Light Temporarily Out / Pedestrian Bridge Closed

In the wake of a fire early Monday morning (July 7) in the Valet Parking area in front of UNC Hospitals, the traffic light at the intersection of Manning and Hospital Drives is temporarily non-operational. Motorists should use caution in this area.

Likewise, the elevated pedestrian walkway across Manning Drive to the Dogwood Parking Deck (the center walkway of three in that area) is temporarily closed. Pedestrians should cross at an alternate pedestrian bridge or cross with the street-level crosswalk signal. Officials are at the site investigating the origin of the fire.

Please continue to monitor Alert Carolina for updates.

About Informational Messages: The University sends an Informational Message to inform the campus community about a situation that is not an emergency, but is expected to be of significant interest to the campus. An Informational Message is one of three tiers of communication under the University’s revised emergency communications plan. Emergency Warning refers to a siren activation for a significant emergency. And a Timely Warning is issued if there is a continuing danger AND notification will not compromise law enforcement efforts.
