INFORMATIONAL MESSAGE FROM ALERT CAROLINA: UNC Repairing Sidewalk Damage along Manning Drive

A small sinkhole (approximately five-feet deep) has caused damage to the sidewalk directly in front of the ITS Building on the northern shoulder of Manning Drive (near the Manning Drive intersection with Emergency Room and Hibbard Drives) Sunday afternoon.

The sidewalk area near the sinkhole has been cordoned off while officials make repairs. Pedestrians should use alternate walkways (i.e., the sidewalk on Manning Drive’s southern shoulder) until the area is deemed safe. Anyone seeing further damage in other locations should please report it by calling 9-1-1.

Please continue to monitor Alert Carolina for further updates.

About Informational Messages: The University sends an Informational Message to inform the campus community about a situation that is not an emergency, but is expected to be of significant interest to the campus. An Informational Message is one of three tiers of communication under the University’s revised emergency communications plan. Emergency Warning refers to a siren activation for a significant emergency. And a Timely Warning is issued if there is a continuing danger AND notification will not compromise law enforcement efforts.
