!Alert Carolina! Adverse Conditions: Critical – University extending Condition 2 to 11:59 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 2. More info: alertcarolina.unc.edu

Due to winter weather impacts, the University is extending Condition 2 to 11:59 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 2.

We are in the midst of a significant winter weather event and will have notably reduced operations during this time. Facilities crews are working hard across campus to clear primary building entrances and walkways. Please use caution and stay on cleared paths to help avoid slips and falls. Snow may also begin sliding off rooftops, so remain alert when walking near or entering/exiting campus buildings.

If a change in conditions is extended beyond 11:59 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 2, it will be communicated via Alert Carolina no later than 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 2.

Your safety is our number one consideration. As a rule, students, faculty and staff must use their own best judgement about whether they can travel safely to and from campus.

Please review the information and resources below to help you understand how Condition 2 may impact you:

Students and Faculty

  • Classes are cancelled.

Staff

  • Non-mandatory employees must not report to work and must leave campus. You must use available personal leave time for work missed except for certain scenarios, which are explained on the Adverse Weather & Emergency Closing webpage.
  • Non-mandatory employees may be permitted to work from home or alternate sites when it is feasible and safe only with supervisor approval. Employees working away from campus do not use leave.
  • Mandatory employees are expected to report to work or remain on the job, unless otherwise directed by supervisors.

Information Sources

  • If the University condition needs to be extended or changed again, another Alert Carolina message will be sent. This will include an email and a post on the Alert Carolina website. A text message may also be sent. You must be signed up to receive Alert Carolina text messages.

Most Alert Carolina Adverse Conditions messages are sent to communicate a change in the normal operating status of UNC-Chapel Hill. Visit the Adverse Weather & Emergency Closing webpage for more information about University conditions and policy details.
