Alert Carolina for Twitter provides Alert Carolina notifications to family, Chapel Hill residents and friends who are unable to receive Alert Carolina messages via text and email. The Twitter account will post a tweet when Alert Carolina posts emergency warnings, timely warnings and adverse weather updates.

The following instructions require a twitter account.  If you do not already have a twitter account, please see Signing up with Twitter for instructions on creating an account.

Receiving push/SMS/text message notifications from @AlertCarolina on Twitter is easy.

  1. Log into Twitter.
  2. Go to the @AlertCarolina account.
  3. Click “follow” on the right side of the page.
  4. Click the gear icon to the left of the “follow” box.
  5. In the drop down menu, click “turn on mobile notifications.”
